This is a prop for a demonstration
about energy movement and waste. It begins with a dark
room. I turn on the barrel and begin to
discuss the energy it takes to light it. I question
how much light energy is never able to escape the walls
of the barrel. How much is just bouncing around inside?
With the ladle I reach in and pull out a scoop of light
in the form of a photocell, battery, and LED. The batteries
which started out dead, have been charged via the photcell
during my introductory remarks. Now, some of the actual
light (previously wasted energy)
can be carried around and used elsewhere.
